Short Film- When watching the short film 9 we have to use context clues in order to understand the plot. There is no speaking dialogue in this film. From the start of the film to the end the setting seems to be in a junk yard or bomb site, it is not clear as to what. There is a clear villain and hero in this film even if there is no dialogue the robot creature is clearly trying to hunt these numbers down and 9 used his intelligence to slay the creature. Also, this green light we see can be linked to a power that this monster may have wanted but again is unclear without dialogue. This is what I gathered from the short film 9.
Long film- When watching the long film 9 there is a whole
plot that the viewer can easily catch on to. In this film there is a clear dialogue
between the characters. With this dialogue we can understand that we are in a post-apocalyptic
world set in a world where humans have been destroyed by machines. The films goal
is to rescue a surviving rag-doll 2. Also in this film each rag-doll has its
own characteristics and distinct visual differences. This is what was gathered
from the long film 9.
Comparison of the short and the
full-length film- Both films possess different and similar qualities. Obviously
because the long film 9 is a extended version of the short film 9 which was an
Oscar nominated short film. In both films we can see 9 portrayed as a hero by
taking down machines and rescuing 2. There are a lot of differences between
these two films. To start in the short there is no dialogue but in the long
there is a lot. Even without dialogue the short still shows us how 9 is a hero.
I believe that with dialogue it does help the viewer understand more clearly
what is going on. In the short there was a lot of details that we wouldn't
understand without any dialogue. Another thing that was really different was
the characters because the long film introduced us to a wider character base
because it had more time to expand on the plot.
