Planning- The Core of the Filming Process

Image
Schedule For this short film my filming schedule will be 3/22/24 – 3/30/24 for many of the scenes. The reason for this is because I am filming my short film in Colorado over spring break. My plan is to film the opening credit parts in Florida, I can then edit them to see the amount of time I need to fill up in Colorado.  Location The locations for this film will be at my house in Florida and on the mountains in Colorado. The Colorado location is a popular ski resort that I go to every year twice a year. For this reason I feel it will be easy for me to navigate where to shoot for my film. Participants For this film I will need at least 4 actors. My family has decided they can help and there may be a couple of friends who are also coming to Colorado. Health and Safety Health and safety is very important especially in an action film. I agree that helmets and protective jackets must be worn. This is in case of falls when skiing. I also want to make sure the people around us are safe when f

This dialogue is very different from the dialogue between the good guys and other characters because when talking to the bad guys there more aggressive.   Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in your genre- In short films there is usually a good guy and bad guys. The shorts also use quick camera movements in order to show action or pace.   Common Editing in your genre- In action editing is important for many reasons. In this short film there is also non-diegetic sound where the music in the background creates tension. In this film there is little speaking interaction between the good and bad guys but instead there is dialogue between the main character and the person she cares along with the man with the gun like many action movies.   Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in your genre- In short films there is usually a good guy and bad guys. Many action shorts have these characters with bullet proof vests and weapons. The bad guys in the action short wear matching gear and have larger guns and seem to have control of something of value. The shorts also use quick camera movements in order to show action, pace, and destruction. They use special kinds of weapons that are advanced and fit with the story. When flashing back the character in the pre

Research: How to make a short film

Image
This video had many great takeaways that were perfect for my action film. First I need to focus on writing. The video suggests that filmmakers write to fit their budget and resources and to consider set ups and payoffs which can be both part of the storyline and emotions. Your first instinct is probably what the audience is expecting but if you go with your second instinct it may be a better experience for your audience. Decide the theme and it will help you figure out what comes next. This video also informed that ear is least important to telling the story and the filmmaking process. I believe intensity is important for filmmaking but for my final task it may not be as important as it would be in an actual film. The video explained the importance of why directors should be sure actors are giving 100 percent. The example of an actor running was very helpful to help me imagine the difference between a jog and a full panicked run. The video also talks about sound which I have addres

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Video- My takeaway from the 12 Mokey’s Le Jetee video is that a feature film can be a remake or a remodel of a previous film The new version of the story can improve on the original or can fail in the attempt. I also learned that plot, use of sound and editing are important to making a film. I can see this helping with my short film process because in the short film they used still pictures instead of actual video and the sound they used still conveys their message without needed motions. An example of this when tensions rise, the viewer can hear a drum beat to symbolize the heart racing. The feature film does allow the audience to have editor to use different camera angles in order to get their point across. The short film editor is limited because he only uses pictures but has still found a way to use shot orientation to show “movement” or action. Article- This article reinforces the ideas from the video that show how a previous film’s plot and some basic elements can be copi

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

Image
Short Film- When watching the short film 9 we have to use context clues in order to understand the plot. There is no speaking dialogue in this film. From the start of the film to the end the setting seems to be in a junk yard or bomb site, it is not clear as to what. There is a clear villain and hero in this film even if there is no dialogue the robot creature is clearly trying to hunt these numbers down and 9 used his intelligence to slay the creature. Also, this green light we see can be linked to a power that this monster may have wanted but again is unclear without dialogue. This is what I gathered from the short film 9. Long film-  When watching the long film 9 there is a whole plot that the viewer can easily catch on to. In this film there is a clear dialogue between the characters. With this dialogue we can understand that we are in a post-apocalyptic world set in a world where humans have been destroyed by machines. The films goal is to rescue a surviving rag-doll 2. Also in th
