Research: How to make a short film
This video had many great takeaways
that were perfect for my action film. First I need to focus on writing. The video
suggests that filmmakers write to fit their budget and resources and to consider
set ups and payoffs which can be both part of the storyline and emotions. Your first
instinct is probably what the audience is expecting but if you go with your
second instinct it may be a better experience for your audience. Decide the
theme and it will help you figure out what comes next. This video also informed
that ear is least important to telling the story and the filmmaking process.
I believe intensity is important for
filmmaking but for my final task it may not be as important as it would be in
an actual film. The video explained the importance of why directors should be
sure actors are giving 100 percent. The example of an actor running was very
helpful to help me imagine the difference between a jog and a full panicked
run.
The video also talks about sound
which I have addressed a lot in previous blogs. I learned it is ok to use
minimal dialogue if you don’t have the right audio gear. I also learned that it
is important to capture any dialogue I do have very clearly and to use clips of
different sounds which can help improve emotion.
I believe all of this information
will help improve the process of making my short film and the final task will
be better if I keep all of this information in mind.
