Short film research: Ballistic

Example film of your genre- Ballistic

Common Sound in your genre- In many action films there is a common sound of gun shots and dialogue between characters. In this short film there is also non-diegetic sound where the music in the background creates tension. In this film there is little speaking interaction between the good and bad guys but instead there is dialogue between the main character and the person she cares along with the man with the gun like many action movies.

Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in your genre- In short films there is usually a good guy and bad guys. Many action shorts have these characters with bullet proof vests and weapons. The bad guys in the action short wear matching gear and have larger guns and seem to have control of something of value. The shorts also use quick camera movements in order to show action, pace, and destruction. They use special kinds of weapons that are advanced and fit with the story. When flashing back the character in the present is in pain or something triggers that reaction.

Common Editing in your genre- In action editing is important for many reasons. To start, editing helps keep the action and pace of the film. Editors use fast cuts and quick camera movements to keep us in the action.

What elements of the genre that you like- I love the fighting and action part of the film because it keeps me engaged on the film. I also love the parts in the film where the plan is being constructed and put into action. Another think I like is emotion scenes were we gain a key detail.
What elements of the genre do not appeal to you- I dislike the slow part in the short where the characters have meaning less conversations that don’t help the plot.
