Short film research: The Big Break

Example film of your genre- The Big Break

Common Sound in your genre- In many action films there is a common sound of fights and police sirens. In this short film there is also non-diegetic sound someone is narrating in the begging for the audience. Also lots of dialogue between characters. This dialogue is very different from the dialogue between the characters and the police where the police are aggressive towards them.

Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in your genre- In short films there is usually a good guy and bad guys. Many action shorts have police officers with bullet proof vests and weapons. The bad guys in action shorts wear masks and have larger guns and seem to have control of something of value. But these characters are good guys until they turn mad which is also common. The shorts also use quick camera movements in order to show action or pace.

Common Editing in your genre- In action editing is important for many reasons. To start, editing helps keep the action and pace of the film. Editors use fast cuts and quick camera movements to keep use in the action.

What elements of the genre that you like- I love the fighting and action part of the film because it keeps me engaged on the film. I also love the parts in the film where the plan is being constructed and put into action.
What elements of the genre do not appeal to you- I dislike the slow part in the movie where the characters have meaning less conversations that don’t help the plot.
