In the opening sequence of this movie, names of people in the cast are displayed. They are shown while there is subtle cinematic shots happening in the background. 

 
2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? 

The images prioritized in the opening sequence are very cozy and comfortable. What is displayed is a small town of toys in a Christmas setting. 

 
3. What connotations do these images carry? 

The images in the opening sequence carry a playful, nostalgic, cozy, and comfortable connotation. This is because all of the shots have a toys or have a winter theme to them which might give someone nostalgia or a cozy/warm feeling. 

 
4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? 

This movie’s opening sequence establishes its genre by introducing all of the toys and miniature figures. It is clear that this movie was a drama and children's fantasy from the beginning because of the playful feeling it creates. 

 
5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? 

This film uses strategies like Including humor and action, using bright colors and exciting designs and staying true to the source material. Children love seeing the humor in movies along with bright colors because it adds so much excitement and makes something look so pretty. Staying true to the source material was alsop important because obviously you can't go too far out of the lines otherwise the people who watched it because of the source material would have no appreciation for it as it could be totally false compared to what it should be. 

 
6. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles,  
transitions and editing techniques. 

Technology is used effectively in this movie because they are able to place down the set and then use cameras to zoom in up close to that. It is a challenge getting very up close shots of things, especially small toys so they definitely used it effectively. They also used editing effectively by adding in snow and making the environment seem more cold and snowy.

Movie Conventions Research: The Pale Blue Eye

Welcome back to my blog. This movie follows some of the conventions of mystery movies, but it also goes against many common conventions . Most of the story-based elements discussed in our genre research, like an enclosed area or wealth as a motive, were not present in this film . More specifically, in the case of going against the convention of enclosed areas, the movie has many outdoor shots spanning wide areas, including wide shots of dozens of men in the forest . Instead of wealth as a motive, the movie had revenge as a main motive for the killings . The biggest example of breaking conventions was the twist at the end of the movie . While having a twist is common , this particular instance was not, as it was revealed that the detective was the killer .
