How do your products engage with the audience?   My product engages with the audience because my movie is like what spring break is for college kids. You know how spring break can be a total whirlwind, right? Well, I've seen it firsthand, and it has its ups and downs. First things first, we're talking about those trips back home. Who doesn't love reuniting with friends and family? That's where it all happens, and that's exactly what my movie is all about. I dove deep into those long drives in my film that leave you feeling horrible. I'm talking about being so tired you can barely think straight because let's face it, we've all been there! But wait, there's more! Let's talk about family time. You know, that quick visit with mom and dad before you're off to party central with your pals. It's like a blink and you miss it moment, but it's super relatable. I mean, who wants to hang out with their parents when there's a whole world of f...

Final Touches

Image
Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog! Today, I'm excited to talk about the final touches I need to make to my short film before it's ready for the big reveal. First up, let's address the audio. I've received feedback that the dialogue volume and background music need some tweaking. The dialogue should be more prominent, and the background music should be toned down to strike the right balance. Another adjustment I've made is extending the duration of the black screen towards the end of the film. This change allows for a more impactful moment, providing viewers with a moment to reflect on what they've just seen. Once I felt satisfied with the edits to my film, I turned my attention to my website. It's essential to ensure everything is in working order before sharing my work with the world. To my surprise, I discovered that some of the links weren't functioning correctly. After sorting out the website issues, I shifted my focus to my postcard. With everyt...

Peer Review

Image
Welcome back to my blog! Today, I want to dive into a peer review I received for my film. First I started by picking the person who would review my film. I picked my brother because he is very creative and I believe would have many great ideas. Let's break down what my peer had to say.  The embedded titles in the film need to be quicker and not as long. This feedback suggests that the titles I've added into my film are dragging on for too long. To fix this, I'll need to shorten the duration of the titles to keep the pacing of the film moving.  The black screen for the man passing out needs to be long. This comment indicates that the blackout scene where a character passes out needs to be extended. This adjustment is crucial for conveying the intensity or significance of the moment, allowing viewers to absorb the impact fully. The music is way too loud in the chase scenes. This feedback highlights an issue with the audio balance, specifically in the chase scenes. It's e...

Editing for My Final Task

Image
Welcome back to my blog! Today, I'm excited to talk about the editing process for my final task. Unlike last year, where I had a lot of help from my group, this year I'm alone. Last year, Rhys from my group took charge of most of the editing, and the video turned out great. However, this time around, I don't have that luxury. So, I had to figure it out on my own and I learned some new skills in the process. First things first, I scouted out different software options for editing. Many required payment or personal information. I then stumbled upon CapCut, which turned out to be a great choice. Once I imported my clips and added them to the software, along with the opening credits I'd already prepared, I was surprised to find that my footage exceeded five minutes. Initially, this seemed overwhelming. It actually forced me to trim down unnecessary shots and focus solely on the story. With all my clips in the software, I began editing my opening scenes, embedding titles, ...

Day 3 of Filming!

Image
Welcome back to my blog! Today, I'm thrilled to share about the final day of filming for my short film. It's been quite a journey, and I'm so excited to see it all come together. Day 3 was a bit easier compared to the previous days since I didn’t need any actors besides myself and the shots weren't too difficult. But don't let that fool you. It was still a crucial day because these shots were most important in telling the story and setting up the ending. I started off the day by setting the scene for my film where I was driving to the Pickleball courts to meet my friends, feeling rushed and in a hurry. This rush led to some trouble when I went to hang up my bag and it ended up falling. It was a bit chaotic because my bag ended up falling behind someone else's, making it hard for me to spot. When filming each element I was focused to make sure the camera angles added to the storyline. As the story continued, despite the mishap, I continued playing pickleball, but...

Filming Day 2 Setbacks

Image
Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog! Today, I'm excited to share about day two of filming. It was the first day with actors, which meant we could add more dialogue and sound to the scenes. Before we started, I updated my storyboard with some tougher shots. When I showed my plans to my actor, we ran into a little problem. She didn't know how to ride a scooter for the scenes! It was unexpected, but we didn't let it stop us. Instead, I took the time to teach her how to ride the scooter. We started with the basics, like balancing and pushing off, and gradually worked our way up to more advanced moves. It took a lot of practice, but she was determined to get it right. As her confidence grew, so did her skills on the scooter. It was really rewarding to see her progress throughout the day. Despite the initial setback, her dedication and perseverance paid off in the end. Of course, teaching her how to ride the scooter did take up quite a bit of time. We had to adjust our filming...

Day 1 Filming and Editing

Image
Welcome back to my blog! Today, I want to tell you all about my first day of filming and a bit about editing too. But before I get into that, let me tell you what I had to do to get ready. So, before I could even start filming, I had to gather up all my stuff, props, equipment, and everything else. Once I had everything together, it was finally time to start filming! The very first thing I did was work on my opening credits. Let me tell you, those shots were tough! I had to make sure they fit perfectly into my film. That's where my storyboard came in handy. It was like a guide that helped me figure out how to shoot each scene. Since I didn't have any help at that time, I decided to start with the scenes I could do on my own. Those shots weren't as hard because they didn't have as much movement as some of the other scenes. After I knocked those shots out I finally had some help. This meant I could start doing some of the more difficult shots for my opening credits. Thes...

Website and Postcard Production Blogs

Image
Welcome back to my blog. In this blog I will be talking about the process of making my website and postcard. This aspect of the project was a lot of fun because it was a new thing that we did not do in AS level. I first started with my website so I could later include that in my postcard. I used a website generator to make my website. I started with making an account and filling out all of the proper information. After that I had to start making posts about this short film and the process for making it. Then I finally got to the fun part, making the home page and designing my website. For the home page I used a picture and name of my movie with text on how to learn more about my film. I filled out all of the information on the website and then created social media accounts to include on the website. In these accounts I could post about the film, my website and postcard. I only had the ability to open two accounts a Twitter and an Instagram. I then started working on my postcard. For th...

I Made a Huge Mistake!

Image
Welcome back to my blog. The title should tell you every thing. I'm feeling a bit stupid because I've made a huge mistake. Let me give you some context. Last year, for our final project, my group and I split filming between spring break and afterward. This year I assumed the same schedule and deadlines would apply. I was so wrong! My entire project hinged on my spring break plans. I didn't even bother to check the due date. I know what you are going to say "What were you thinking?" Trust me, I've been asking myself the same question. Now, I'm forced to fall back on my backup plan, which isn't exactly what I had in mind, but I will make it work. It's back to the planning and storyboard for me. On the bright side, I did manage to start filming my opening scene, so it's not a complete disaster. I can't help but feel frustrated with myself for this oversight. It's a lesson learned the hard way. I'll definitely be more observant in check...

Production Blog: Planning Blog Difficultly

Image
Welcome back to my blog. In this blog I will talk about my planning blog. This was the second hardest part of my whole final task behind the storyboard which I will talk about next blog. To start off, my planning blog is one of the biggest parts of planning. First off, I had to create a schedule. My time frame was only a week long because I am filming over spring break. I feel confident I can get this done because I will film one fourth of the project in Florida and start the editing process. The location was easy because I had already thought that out. I will be filming in Florida and Colorado. The participants were difficult because I would be on vacation with my family. So, in the beginning I was going to use them, but then I got the good news 3 of my friends were coming also, so I will use them instead. One of the biggest considerations for filming in Colorado is the protection of my actors. For health and safety my actors will wear helmets and protective clothing. There are many p...

Production Blog: Planning For My Final Project

Image
Welcome back to my blog. In this blog I will go over the planning process for my final task. There was a lot of components that had to be put into action to finish the planning for my final task. First, I had to pick groupmates. This was a very difficult decision for me because of past experiences. Last year for my final task one of my groupmates did not work hard and my other groupmate and I had to pick up the slack. When it came time to film my reliable friend ended up breaking has wrist so he could not do reshoots. This caused use to have to completely restart filming. In the end I ended up doing almost all of the work. I can't complain though because I ended up passing. For these reasons I chose to work alone for these projects. The next thing I had to do was make a pitch and pick a genre. The good thing about working alone is I get to use my own ideas. This way I am more passionate about this final project. For my pitch I wanted to do an action short film with a fight scene. ...

Planning- The Core of the Filming Process

Image
Schedule For this short film my filming schedule will be 3/22/24 – 3/30/24 for many of the scenes. The reason for this is because I am filming my short film in Colorado over spring break. My plan is to film the opening credit parts in Florida, I can then edit them to see the amount of time I need to fill up in Colorado.  Location The locations for this film will be at my house in Florida and on the mountains in Colorado. The Colorado location is a popular ski resort that I go to every year twice a year. For this reason I feel it will be easy for me to navigate where to shoot for my film. Participants For this film I will need at least 4 actors. My family has decided they can help and there may be a couple of friends who are also coming to Colorado. Health and Safety Health and safety is very important especially in an action film. I agree that helmets and protective jackets must be worn. This is in case of falls when skiing. I also want to make sure the people around us are safe wh...

Short film research: Ballistic

Example film of your genre- Ballistic   Common Sound in your genre- In many action films there is a common sound of gun shots and dialogue between characters. In this short film there is also non-diegetic sound where the music in the background creates tension. In this film there is little speaking interaction between the good and bad guys but instead there is dialogue between the main character and the person she cares along with the man with the gun like many action movies.   Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in your genre- In short films there is usually a good guy and bad guys. Many action shorts have these characters with bullet proof vests and weapons. The bad guys in the action short wear matching gear and have larger guns and seem to have control of something of value. The shorts also use quick camera movements in order to show action, pace, and destruction. They use special kinds of weapons that are advanced and fit with the story. When flashing back the charac...

Research: How to make a short film

Image
This video had many great takeaways that were perfect for my action film. First I need to focus on writing. The video suggests that filmmakers write to fit their budget and resources and to consider set ups and payoffs which can be both part of the storyline and emotions. Your first instinct is probably what the audience is expecting but if you go with your second instinct it may be a better experience for your audience. Decide the theme and it will help you figure out what comes next. This video also informed that ear is least important to telling the story and the filmmaking process. I believe intensity is important for filmmaking but for my final task it may not be as important as it would be in an actual film. The video explained the importance of why directors should be sure actors are giving 100 percent. The example of an actor running was very helpful to help me imagine the difference between a jog and a full panicked run. The video also talks about sound which I have addres...

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Image
Video- My takeaway from the 12 Mokey’s Le Jetee video is that a feature film can be a remake or a remodel of a previous film The new version of the story can improve on the original or can fail in the attempt. I also learned that plot, use of sound and editing are important to making a film. I can see this helping with my short film process because in the short film they used still pictures instead of actual video and the sound they used still conveys their message without needed motions. An example of this when tensions rise, the viewer can hear a drum beat to symbolize the heart racing. The feature film does allow the audience to have editor to use different camera angles in order to get their point across. The short film editor is limited because he only uses pictures but has still found a way to use shot orientation to show “movement” or action. Article- This article reinforces the ideas from the video that show how a previous film’s plot and some basic elements can be copi...
